When COLOR fuses with GLASS

"Rings, rings and rhythms. Whirls in a flow. Ever again – and a feeling of something, itself reflected and making reflected images. The movement of light – a moment that has passed. Already gone." Tapio Wirkkala

The versatile and internationally celebrated Finnish Designer & Artist Tapio Wirkkala (1915-85) collaborated with Venini in Murano, Italy to design a stunning range of colored glassware. With interest in in nature, movement and structure, Tapio's pieces from this collection are a tribute to his inspirations and to the tradition of Venetian glass blowing.

F e s t i v e    I N S P I R A T I O N S
Diwali is here.
It's early morning and crackers are already booming!
The slight morning chill in Mumbai air gives a Diwali feel in an otherwise hot day..

Homes, buildings, bazaars are all decked up for this very special occasion. Traffic has been dense and markets have been a maze, with families out for last minute preparations. Colorful kandeels, string lights, basketful of pretty diyas & puja items are on display in road side stalls, all an invitation to celebrate.

As I ready up to make rangolis, cook delicacies & light up my home and heart :) here's a very special collection of emotions and elements I associate with this grand festival, images that spell 'INDIA' and embody the spirit of festivity!

 Monsoon is here!
The heat is slowly peeling away.
Gulmohars & Jacarandas are in full bloom, a spectacle in orange & purple.
Colorful umbrellas are out.
Little children are enjoying a dance under pouring skies.
Maybe we too should join and soak in the feel of this very special season.

Monsoon is another season of color to me. Its the time when everything goes green. And, I try to add color to eveything to tide over the grey & blue :)

So, here we are with a gorgeous collection of colorful products, all handmade by some very talented artists.
(Perhaps a cue to pick up that hobby you left behind, while it pours outside)

Ceramics that say 'Aqua', in various hues of blue & green.
The leaf shape platter with crackled glass glaze, made from recycled colored glass bottles is my favorite.
The porcelain salt & pepper shakers are so quirky.

I like the look of this diaphanous hand stamped cotton scarf. A hand tooled 'hedwig'* leather book mark for those of us looking to spend a rainy afternoon curled up with a book.

The Eskimo looks happy on the superbly illustrated iceberg!
S(he) can certainly do with some steaming hot Caffè - the menu is exhaustive :)

Mustard teardrops set in brass bead caps bring just the dash of color on a rainy day.

For the little ones..
Innovative animal gift wrap packs & colorful wooden toys.
These red suede boots are fit for a princess!
Bunnies from one of my favorite stores - SewnNatural (Do check this one out - they have amazing merchandize, all hand made in the most beautiful prints & equally stunning designs)

Aren't the aspen wood coasters gorgeous?
I love the white paper machie bowl with gold leaf inlay.
Hand painted Calla lilies look perfectly framed on the vintage porcelain vase.

That was enough monsoon color to last you an afternoon :)
Till we meet another rainy day...a cappuccino from me to you!

Ochre : The color evokes earthy imagery.
It gives an impression of depth & richness, of the traditional...This is a color that has for long fascinated me. Teamed with blues & reds this color has been used since ancient times in textiles & embroideries, to stunning effect.

Spring is around the corner.. I am just back from a vacation in the plains of North India where fields are a riot of mustard. Couple this with Holi and you can't blame me for having color on mind - lots of it :) To share this very 'colored' emotion, here I am with a selection of products (most of them handmade), for our readers to feast on - all with a dash of OCHRE!

Pssst...If you are in a mood to indulge, the links are included in Image credits

This is all so eye catching! A hand printed cushion, a door in Tunisia and an advent calendar featuring a streetscape from Amsterdam - I feel like opening each of these tiny flaps to see what's hidden inside..
